CANSail 1
-
Our CANSail 1 program is the perfect introduction to sailing for children aged 8 and up with little to no previous experience. Designed for beginner sailors, this level requires a minimum of one week to complete and focuses on building foundational sailing skills in a fun, safe, and supportive environment.
Participants will have the opportunity to sail a variety of boats, including Optimists, Zests, and 420s, while learning basic skills such as steering, points of sail, knot tying, tacking, and gybing. Sailors will also begin to apply sail trim, and safely stop and start their boats.
Beyond sailing fundamentals, sailors will develop confidence, independence, and strong water safety awareness. Participants will learn how to rig and de-rig their boats, and perform basic safety procedures, such as safely recovering from a capsize by righting their boat independently.
-
Monday to Friday from 9:00am to 4:00pm. First week of July to last week of August.
-
$515 inclusive of all applicable taxes and fees
CANSail 2
-
CANSail 2 builds upon the foundational skills developed in CANSail 1, introducing a more focused curriculum that requires a minimum of two weeks to complete. At this level, sailors refine their existing abilities while gaining a deeper understanding of sail trim, boat balance, and on-water decision-making. Here, sailors will have the opportunity to sail in our Lasers, as well as our 420s.
Participants will learn proper body positioning, as well as how to accurately head up and bear off to a desired point of sail while maintaining effective sail trim. Sailors will develop greater control and confidence in their boats as they master stopping and starting, learn to interpret telltales and ticklers, and identify gusts and lulls to improve their performance on the water.
Participants will expand their knowledge of on-water safety by learning how to recognize, prevent, and respond to conditions such as hypothermia and heat-related illnesses. They will also learn to safely right a turtled boat.
By the end of CANSail 2, sailors will demonstrate increased independence, stronger boat control, and a solid understanding of the skills needed to sail safely and confidently in a variety of conditions.
